Zeus and the Bees
Long ago a bee lived on a high mountain and made delicious honey. Every day this bee worked hard and gathered honey from the freshest flowers. One day she decided to take a special gift to the god Zeus. She filled a golden comb with fresh honey and flew up to the sky. Zeus saw this sweet gift, became very happy and smiled at the bee. Zeus thanked the bee for the wonderful honey and gave her one wish.
The selfish bee thought for a while and asked for something bad. "People must not take my honey, give me a strong sting," she said. "I want to kill at once every person who touches my honey," she added. Zeus loved people very much and got very angry at this evil wish. But he did not want to break his word and accepted the bee's wish. He turned to the bee and spoke with a hard voice.
"I give you the sting you want, but the price will be heavy," he said. "If you sting a person, you lose your own life," he ordered. The little bee wanted to hurt others and prepared her own end. From that day on, bees die when they sting people. People who wish evil on others only harm themselves in the end. He who digs a pit for others falls into it himself.
