The Wolf and the Lamb
Once upon a time, a sweet lamb lived by a forest full of birdsong. Every morning this lamb ran and played happily on the soft grass. The sun shone sweetly, and the little lamb grew very thirsty. It went to a clear, sweet stream to cool down. The water tasted lovely, and the lamb began to drink with joy. Just then a hungry, wicked wolf came out from behind the bushes. The wolf saw the tasty lamb and looked for an excuse to eat it.
He came close to the lamb and shouted in a hard voice. "Why do you dirty my drinking water with mud?" he asked. The little lamb trembled with fear and answered politely. "But dear wolf, you are up the stream and I am below," it said. "The water flows from you to me, so I cannot dirty it," it added. The wolf grew angry at this clever answer and made up another lie. "Last year you said bad words about me," he growled.
The surprised lamb answered in a sad voice. "I am only one year old, and last year I was not even born," it said. The wicked wolf did not want to hear any more excuses. "Not you? Then surely your father!" he said and jumped on the lamb. Sadly, the poor lamb could not escape the unjust wolf. Wicked people always find an excuse to do wrong. He who plans the deed also prepares the excuse.
