The Wolf and the Horse
One spring day a clever wolf walked in a field. He saw a lot of fresh yellow barley there. But wolves do not eat barley, so it was useless. Just then a strong, beautiful horse came down the road. The wolf quickly decided to make a clever plan. He smiled and ran fast to the horse.
In a sweet voice he offered a great favour. "Dear friend, I found a rich barley field," he said. "I never touched it, because I like you," he added. "Come and eat this fresh barley," the wolf called. The horse looked at the wolf and understood at once. He answered calmly and looked into the wolf's face.
"You leave the barley because you cannot eat it," he said. "Your false kindness comes only from your helplessness," he added. The wise horse did not trust him and ran away. The wolf stayed in the field, full of shame. Never trust a gift that the giver cannot use. The truth always comes to light in the end.
