The Two Cocks and the Falcon
Once upon a time, two proud roosters lived on a large farm beyond the green valleys. One had bright red feathers that shone, and the other had black wings as dark as the night. All the hens on the farm watched the graceful walk of these two showy roosters with admiration. But these two proud roosters could never accept sharing the same yard. Every morning at sunrise, a fierce rivalry began over which one would crow louder. One day their patience ran out, and they decided to fight to become the only master of the farm.
Beating their wings furiously, they suddenly threw themselves at each other with their sharp spurs. The farm animals held their breath and watched this fierce and dusty struggle with great excitement. At the end of the long and violent fight, the red rooster gave his rival a heavy defeat. The black rooster, aching from the blows, hid in fear in the corner of a dark henhouse. The victorious red rooster puffed out his chest with pride and quickly climbed onto the high roof of the barn. Beating his wings with joy, he shouted at the top of his voice, “I am the strongest leader of this farm!”
His crowing, repeated with a proud voice, began to echo all around the valley. However, a hungry falcon gliding in the sky noticed this loud and arrogant voice at once. With his sharp eyes he took aim at the showy rooster on the roof and suddenly swooped down. The red rooster, still crying out in victory, disappeared into the strong claws of the falcon before he even understood what was happening. The black rooster, understanding that the danger had passed, slowly came out of the dark corner where he was hiding. From that day on, he lived in peace as the new master of the farm. Untimely arrogance and excessive pride can lead to disaster even in the sweetest moment of victory. He who flies low lands high, and he who flies high lands low.
