The Treacherous Man and the Farmer
A merciful farmer opened his house and gave work to a homeless man he found hungry and miserable on the road. The farmer gave the man clothes and food and embraced him like one of his own family. However, the treacherous man attempted to steal valuable items and animals in the house on a day when the farmer was in the city. Returning early, the farmer caught the treacherous man red-handed and immediately handed him over to justice.
Deceitful people who respond to kindness with ungratefulness break the merciful hand extended to them and prepare their own end. Mercy shown to bad-intentioned people encourages cruelty and theft. Ungratefulness and treachery are the heaviest crimes that destroy a person's honor and future. It is wisdom to weigh the morality of people shown kindness and ensure security.
When seeing ungratefulness from someone shown kindness, precautions should be taken. Ungratefulness kills mercy. Whoever commits treachery to kindness suffers punishment. Mercy to the bad is cruelty.
The treacherous prepares their own end. Honesty is the foundation of trust. The ungrateful person remains alone.
