The Sybarite and the Cart

Once upon a time, in a magnificent coastal city with golden sand beaches, lived a rich man. Throughout his life, this man had never done any hard work and loved resting on soft silk pillows. The people of the city watched his overly sensitive and lazy habits with astonishment and told stories about him. On a warm spring morning, this comfort-loving man was sitting in the cool shade of a tree in his garden.

Just at that moment, a strong worker passed down the street, trying to push a heavy and large cart. The worker was soaked in sweat under the sun, trying to turn the wheels with great effort. Seeing this hard labor, the lazy man suddenly closed his eyes and began to cry out in pain. "Oh, please stop pushing that heavy cart in front of my eyes immediately!" he groaned aloud. Running up in great fear, his servant came beside his master and asked what happened.

"Master, did somewhere hurt, or did the cart hit you?" he asked, looking around with concern. Whining, the rich man gently wiped the sweat droplets off his forehead with his silk handkerchief. "Even seeing that man work so hard made my muscles ache terribly," he said. Facing this absurd situation he witnessed, the servant did not know what to say in astonishment. As for the worker, he stopped, looked at the manor, and simply laughed off this strange complaint. Meanwhile, the lazy man could not get out of bed all day just because he watched someone else's labor.

Thus, it was understood by everyone that people who do not show real effort are afraid of even the smallest things. Those who avoid labor and hard work cannot even tolerate seeing the effort of others. A lazy person never runs out of excuses.
