The Spendthrift and the Swallow

Once there was a young man from a rich family. This young man never liked work and spent all his money. Soon he finished all the money from his father. Only his thick winter coat was left. Still he learned nothing from his mistakes. On a sunny spring morning the young man walked in the street.

Suddenly he saw one single swallow in the sky. The young man got excited and shouted with joy. "Summer is here, I do not need a thick coat!" he said. He went to the market at once and sold his last coat. He quickly spent that little money on fun things. But the next day it got very cold and snow fell.

A hard wind froze everything. The young man stayed outside and shook in the icy cold. Beside the road he saw the frozen swallow. The poor bird came too early and did not survive. The young man looked at the bird sadly and understood his mistake. He was sorry, because he believed one single sign. Wrong decisions in a hurry always bring regret. One swallow does not make a summer.
