The Sleeping Dog and the Wolf
A thin dog lived on a big farm. One sunny day, the dog slept by the door. Suddenly a big, hungry wolf came from the forest. The wolf saw the dog and caught him. The dog was afraid, but he thought fast.
The dog said, "Wolf, I am very thin now." "Next week this farm has a big wedding." "At the wedding I will eat and get fat." "Eat me then, I will taste better." The wolf believed him and went to the forest.
One week later the wolf visited the farm again. He saw the dog on a high, safe roof. The wolf said, "Come down! Is the wedding over?" The dog laughed: "I will not sleep outside again." The wolf understood the trick and went away. Clever people learn from mistakes and never fall again. Once bitten, twice shy.
