The Shepherd and the Young Wolves
Long ago, a young shepherd lived beside an old forest with cool streams. Every day he took his white sheep to green meadows and played his flute sweetly. On a sunny spring day he found two little wolf cubs on the mountain road. The tiny cubs were very cold and they trembled all alone. The shepherd felt sorry for them, put the cubs in his soft bag and carried them home. Every morning the shepherd gave the cubs fresh milk and raised them with love.
He thought to himself, "These wolves will grow up and guard my flock." Months passed, and the sweet little cubs became huge and strong wolves. The old people of the village warned the shepherd, but he never listened to them. "They are used to me, they will never hurt my sheep," he said. But one day the shepherd went to town and the wolves stayed alone in the pen. The wild wolves saw the sheep, and the hunter inside them woke up.
In one moment the wolves attacked the fattest sheep. In the evening the shepherd came home and the sight gave him a great shock. Most of his sheep were gone, and the wolves were running toward the forest. The shepherd took his head in his hands and understood his big mistake. However long you raise a wild animal, it never forgets its own nature.
Kindness to bad-hearted people brings nothing but harm to yourself.
Feed the crow, and it will peck out your eye.
