The Shepherd and the Rearing Wolf

Long ago, beside an old forest where cool waters flowed, there was a small village. A merciful and old shepherd lived in this charming village. One day, the shepherd found a tiny lost wolf cub in the forest. Feeling sorry for the little cub, he brought it to his hut right away. He began raising it with love alongside his own loyal dogs.

As the wolf grew over time, it learned to guard the flock together with the dogs. The old shepherd was very pleased and happy with this. However, the wild instincts inside the wolf never vanished.

Whenever another wolf came from the forest, ours secretly helped it. When the dogs went away, it harmed the sheep in the flock. One evening, the shepherd saw with his own eyes that the wolf hunted a sheep. Realizing his efforts were in vain, he experienced great astonishment.

The old shepherd understood that one can never overcome a wolf's nature. Even raised with love, the wolf had returned to its true essence. The shepherd removed the wolf from the flock before suffering more damage. He returned it once again to the deep forest where it belonged. After that, he trusted his sheep only to his reliable dogs.

No matter how trained, evil-natured creatures never forget their nature. Nurture a snake in your bosom and it will sting you.
