The Sheep and the Dogs
There had been a long and bitter war between the wolves and the sheep for many years. Because of the loyal and strong dogs guarding the sheep, the wolves could never approach the flock. Finally, the sly wolves sent a message to the sheep proposing peace. "The only obstacle between us is these loyal dogs," they said, "drive them away and we will live in eternal peace."
Tricked by the wolves' false promises, the naive sheep drove their guardian dogs away from the flock. Once the dogs were gone, the wolves attacked the unprotected flock and easily preyed on them all. The sheep paid with their lives for sacrificing the friends who had protected them. Those who believe sweet promises of enemies and send away guardians prepare their own doom.
Do not abandon your protective friends on an enemy's word. False peace offers are full of traps. An enemy's sweet words are poisonous. A flock left without a guardian becomes prey.
Whoever sells a friend buys their own disaster. No deal is made with a wolf. Enemies cannot be trusted.
