The Rivers and the Sea
Once upon a time, by the edge of an old forest where cool waters flowed, there were rivers bubbling with joy. These clear rivers were fed by mountain snowmelt and carried icy sweet water to the earth. Along the way they crossed high cliffs, giving vitality to thirsty gazelles and colorful birds. The rivers took pride in the purity of their waters and continued to flow proudly. But at the end of their long journey, they all met with the massive and vast sea.
One day the rivers gathered by the shore of the great sea and noticed that their waters changed. The moment they mixed into the deep blue sea, their delicious sweet water suddenly turned salty. Very angry at this situation, the rivers started shouting toward the sea in a proud voice. "We bring you our sweetest and purest waters," said an enthusiastic river. "And you ruin our precious water with burning salt," added the other. The rivers continued to accuse the great sea listening to them of injustice and greed.
The deep sea listened to these angry words of the rivers with great patience and calmness. Foaming its waves gently, the sea rose solemnly in front of the rivers. "O rivers, I never asked you to bring water to me," said the wise sea. "My nature is such, and you come here of your own will and join me," he continued. "If you want to stay sweet, you should stop flowing toward me and stay in your mountains," he said. Not knowing what to say in the face of this logical answer, the rivers pulled back silently.
Those who step into danger of their own accord should not blame others for the results they face. He who falls by his own fault does not cry.
