The Pigeon and the Painting
Long ago, a cheerful pigeon lived in an old town with cool streams. All day the little pigeon flew freely on bright wings. One hot noon the sun burned, and the pigeon became very thirsty. She looked around with curiosity for one drop of water. While the wind blew sweetly, she saw the wall of a big building. On that wall hung a wonderful painting full of colours.
In the painting stood a clear glass of ice-cold water. The picture looked so real that the thirsty pigeon did not believe her eyes. The pigeon shouted with joy, "At last I found cold water!" With great excitement she dived down towards the painting. She did not look well and flew at full speed to the glass. An old crow called, "Stop, that is only a picture!"
But the impatient pigeon was in a hurry and listened to nobody. The pigeon hit the hard wall with a loud noise. The poor bird broke her wing and fell helplessly to the ground. Sadly, that beautiful water was only paint. Just then a man on the road caught the bird easily. The careless pigeon was very sorry about her big mistake. Careless deeds in a hurry bring living creatures into great danger. Haste makes waste.
