The Painter and His Wife
Once upon a time, in an elegant town where the seas shimmered blue, there lived a painter whose brush was magical and his skillful wife. The moment the painter touched his canvas, ordinary canvases came alive, and fragrant flower scents seemed to rise from his paintings. His wife, for her part, was a wise woman who had won the hearts of the townspeople with the colorful cloths she wove delicately in the garden of their house. The two lovers spent their lives in peace, drawing inspiration from each other's cheerfulness and grace in their humble existence. However, as the merciless wheel of time turned, the woman began to grieve, thinking that her youth was starting to fade in her reflection in the mirror. Noticing the clouds of sorrow on his wife's face, the painter decided to give her a masterpiece that would immortalize his love.
Shutting himself in his workshop for days, he worked his rarest paints and the inexhaustible love in his heart into his canvas stitch by stitch. When the painting was finished, not only the woman's outward beauty but also the tenderness and the wisdom in the depths of her soul were reflected in the picture. The woman, seeing the painting and unable to hold back her tears, asked, "While the mirrors tell me that I have grown old, how do you see me so radiant?" The painter smiled and answered, "True art is not carrying onto the canvas what the eye sees, but the truth that the heart feels." Just then the rich and arrogant merchant of the town entered the workshop and wanted to buy this magnificent painting at once. The merchant offered sacks full of gold for the painting and tried to sway the painter's mind and to carry the picture off to his mansion.
Although the woman hesitated for a moment, thinking that they would be saved from poverty, she saw the painter's determined gaze. Turning to the arrogant merchant, the painter stated that no treasure in the world could buy the priceless worth of the love he felt for his wife. As the merchant left the workshop in anger, the two lovers embraced each other more tightly and felt the pride of their loyalty. From that day on, the woman found peace by looking not at the fleeting lines in the mirrors, but at the eternal love in her husband's eyes. It spread from mouth to mouth throughout the town that no labour done with love and no loyalty coming from the heart could be measured by wealth. Every being looked upon with the eye of the heart becomes immortal through love and lives beyond time. What the eye sees is fleeting; what the heart loves is everlasting.
