The Oak and the Reed
A strong oak tree grew beside a big river. A small thin reed lived next to the oak. The oak was always very proud of itself. It looked at the reed and called it weak. One day a very wild storm came.
The wind blew hard over everything. The strong oak stood straight and did not bend. The small reed bent calmly in the wind. The oak fought the wind and got very tired. The storm grew stronger and made a big noise.
The hard oak broke and fell to the ground. The small reed bent, so it was not hurt. After the storm the reed slowly stood up again. Bending often saves more lives than standing hard. Better bend than break.
