The Nightingale and the Swallow
Long ago, beside an old forest where cool waters flowed, there lived a cheerful nightingale. Every morning, this sweet nightingale perched on a tree branch and sang wonderful songs. One day, a cute swallow flying fast approached him. Looking at the nightingale, the swallow began chirping joyfully.
"Why do you not come to the roofs of houses where humans live?" asked the swallow. "If you live near humans, everyone will hear your voice and love you very much," he added. The singer nightingale slowly shook his head and answered with a sad voice. "In the past I lived among humans, but suffering great pain I lost my voice," he said. "Even though humans loved my song, they locked me in a cage and took my freedom," he explained.
"Therefore, whenever I see humans and their houses, I remember those bad old days," said the nightingale. "If I live there, my peace is ruined; singing freely here is enough for me," he added. As the nightingale continued his cheerful song, the swallow quietly flew away. A person wants to stay away from places and memories that caused them pain in the past.
Bitter experiences are enough to make a person more careful and prudent. Once bitten, twice shy. A single misfortune is better than a thousand pieces of advice. Good deed brings good return. There is no place like home. Freedom is valuable above all things.
