The Mouse and the Oyster

Once upon a time, on a deserted beach where deep blue seas foamed, lived a small and curious field mouse. Bored with the scent of fresh grass, this mouse wanted to explore unknown flavors on the seashore. One morning, accompanied by the cheerful cries of seagulls, he went for a long walk on the beach. As he walked on the golden yellow beach, a strange object shining under the sun caught his attention. As he got closer, he realized that this object was a huge oyster washed ashore by the sea waves.

The oyster had opened its shells wide open to enjoy the warm sunlight. The soft and fleshy texture inside aroused the appetite of the hungry little mouse. The mouse whispered to himself, "How defenseless this sea creature looks." Taking a few more steps toward the oyster, he stuck his nose between the shells. "I will just taste a small piece," he said, smiling confidently. However, the moment the oyster felt the mouse's breath, it sensed great danger and acted out of self-preservation instinct.

The hard and thick shells snapped shut with a loud noise. The curious mouse could not save his head from getting stuck between this clamp like steel. "Help, please open your shells!" the mouse cried out helplessly. But the oyster was determined not to release its foreign enemy and to keep its shells tightly closed. No matter how much the mouse struggled and wagged his tail, he could not stretch the hard shells.

Looked from the outside, this sea creature standing quiet and harmless had set the biggest trap of the mouse's life. A victim of his greed and carelessness, the mouse remained trapped alone in the solitude of the beach. As the sun set, the little mouse paid a heavy price for being fooled by appearances. Those who act with greed and underestimate danger become condemned to the trap of their own carelessness. As you make your bed, so you must lie on it.
