The Mountain Gave Birth to a Mouse
Once upon a time, a majestic mass of rock rose at the edge of an old forest where cool waters flowed. This huge mass was like a silent giant that all the animals around watched with deep respect. The green trees and the roaring streams around it almost bowed with respect before its majesty. The lovable dwellers of the forest lived for years in peace in the shade of this quiet hill. But one spring morning this silence suddenly left its place to strange and frightening sounds. A violent rumble that came from the depths began to rock the earth like a cradle and to make the trees tremble. The hill was suddenly shaking, and a dark smoke rose from its bosom into the air and covered the sky.
The alarmed rabbits, the curious foxes and the timid gazelles came together with fear. The old and wise owl called out with worry towards the crowd from a high branch. “The majestic hill is waking up; surely an immense dragon or a destructive monster will be born!” he said. The hearts of the animals who heard these words came into their mouths and they looked at the hill with eyes full of fear. The noise grew greater with every passing minute, and the rocks broke loose from their place with great fury. Everyone drew back with excitement, held their breath and set to wait for the end of this magnificent event. These terrible bursts, which lasted for days, were enough to drive away the sleep of all the creatures in the valley.
At last, along with a magnificent rumble, a huge crack opened at the top of the hill. Everyone was waiting in great terror for a huge creature to come out. When the smoke slowly scattered, a tiny grey shape appeared through the cloud of dust. The thing that slipped through the crack and climbed onto the rock was only a tiny mouse. The little mouse looked around with astonished eyes and squeaked joyfully, making its whiskers tremble. This lovely sight after such a huge expectation made all the animals in the forest burst into laughter. Behind great noises there may not always be great results. Much noise, no fruit.
