The Mosquito and the Lion
Long ago, in a green forest of cool waters, a strong lion lived. This lion thought he was the biggest and bravest king of the forest. One sunny morning, a small and proud mosquito flew to him. The tiny mosquito buzzed and began to circle around the lion. At first the lion did not care about this little guest. The mosquito loudly challenged the huge lion.
“I am not afraid of you, because I am stronger,” he said. The lion got very angry at these words and roared with rage. The mosquito moved at once and bit the lion’s soft nose. The lion wanted to hit the fly, but he only scratched his own face. The angry lion tried everything, but he did not catch this fast enemy. In the end the huge lion got very tired and gave up. The little mosquito was very happy, because he won the battle.
He sang victory songs and rose proudly into the air. But pride made him blind, and he flew into a spider web. The tiny spider, the owner of the web, came quickly to the fly. The mosquito who beat the huge lion became food for a small spider.
Even if we win great victories, we must never become proud. Eat a big bite, but do not speak a big word.
