The Man Who Warmed the Snake
On a cold winter day an old farmer walked through the forest. White snow covered everything and a hard wind was blowing. By the road the man saw a small snake that lay still. The poor snake was almost frozen and did not move at all. The kind man felt very sorry and wanted to help the snake. He slowly lifted the snake and put it in his coat pocket.
"I will keep you warm and save you," he said to himself. After a while he walked on and went towards his home. In the warm pocket the snake slowly got warm and woke up. But instead of saying thank you, the snake got its poison ready. Suddenly the ungrateful snake lifted its head and attacked the man. With its sharp teeth it tried to bite the man's hand.
Luckily the man saw the danger in time and threw the snake down. Full of fear, the man looked at the snake on the snow. "I helped you, but you wanted to hurt me," he said. The nature of dangerous animals never changed. The snake disappeared into the snow and the man went on his way. Being kind to bad people can sometimes bring harm to you. Feed a crow and it will peck out your eye.
