The Loyal Dog and His Master
Once upon a time, at the edge of an old forest where cool waters flowed, there lived a merciful merchant named Alperen. At his side was a dog named Karabas, whose eyes shone with cleverness and who was famous for his loyalty. Together they wandered from town to town, swallowing the dust of the caravan roads and keeping each other faithful company. Karabas understood his master's wishes from a single glance, and by keeping watch all night long he protected him from dangers. On a gloomy autumn evening, as they were crossing a narrow mountain pass, a greedy bandit blocked their way. The cruel man struck the unfortunate merchant to the ground without any pity and seized by force the purses full of gold.
Although Karabas hurled himself forward relentlessly to protect his master, he was wounded and flung among the rocks. The bandit, believing that the dog was dead, hid the master's lifeless body in a steep pit and hurried away. Shaken by a deep grief, Karabas rose despite his pain and kept watch silently for hours at his master's head. As dawn broke, the faithful animal ran to the nearby town and began to howl at the people with bitter cries. The townspeople, seeing the helplessness in the dog's eyes, said: "There is a deep anguish in this animal, it is calling us somewhere!" The people followed Karabas and reached the rocky pass, and with horror they found the hidden corpse.
Just at that moment, the bandit, who had mingled with the crowd, was watching what happened as if nothing had occurred. Karabas recognized his owner's murderer at once by his smell and hurled himself upon the bandit in great fury. Panicking before the fierce attack of the dog, the guilty man was forced to confess his crime in tears. While the guards put the murderer in chains at once, justice was at last done and innocent blood did not remain unavenged. So as never to forget this matchless devotion, the townspeople honored the loyal dog to the end of his days. True friendship and loyalty are an unquenchable torch that lights up even the darkest mysteries. Nobody can cover the sun with mud.
