The Lion and the Donkey Hunting

One day a strong lion and a simple donkey decided to hunt together. They made a good plan to catch the goats of the deep forest. The lion told the donkey to hide behind the rocks and bray with all his strength. The donkey liked this idea and accepted it with great excitement. The lion waited quietly at the mouth of the cave. The donkey went behind the rocks and suddenly brayed very loudly.

The goats heard that strange and terrible sound and got a big fright. The frightened goats did not know what to do and ran out of the cave. The lion at the door easily caught the running goats one by one. After the hunt the donkey came to the lion, full of pride. "How was my voice? I frightened the goats well, didn't I?" the donkey asked. The lion looked at the donkey and smiled a little.

He answered the funny boasting of the donkey very calmly. "You really shouted loudly, and anyone who does not know you is truly afraid," he said. "But everybody knows that you are only a donkey," he added. When the donkey heard these words, he understood how funny his boast was. He bowed his head in shame for calling another's strength his own success. Boasting about another's success without knowing your own strength makes a person look silly. He who rides a borrowed horse walks home again soon.
