The Lark
Once a little lark lived above the golden wheat fields. Every morning this happy bird flew and sang sweet songs. Beside the field lay a green forest and a clear stream. Each day the lark found tasty seeds and glided freely. When the wind blew softly, the bird rose very high. One day an old hunter came and spread a big net.
He scattered tasty grains of wheat over the net. The lark looked down and wondered about the strange man. It came down slowly and asked him about the net. The clever hunter smiled and spoke about a new city. "In this beautiful city the food is free," he said. The simple lark believed these sweet words and felt happy.
It flew eagerly to the middle of the net. The net closed suddenly when the bird touched the ground. The little bird saw the trap and felt great fear. It fluttered, looked at the hunter and grew very angry. Sadly it understood: nobody was happy in that city. Unfortunately it saw the danger behind sweet words too late. We must not believe every sweet word too quickly. Not every smiling face is a friend.
