The Lamp
A small earthenware lamp filled with olive oil was shedding brilliant light by the window. Looking at its own flame, the lamp boasted "My light is brighter than the sun and the moon, I overshadow all the stars in the sky." Just then, as a light wind blew through the window, the lamp's flame suddenly went out and remained in darkness. The owner of the lamp came, lit it again and said "The sun and moon do not go out with wind; stop boasting and give your light quietly."
Those who boast with temporary opportunities provided from outside are condemned to extinguish at the first small obstacle. True light and power come from one's own essence; those shining with someone else's oil cannot hold out against the wind. Being humble and shedding light while knowing one's place is the true value. Arrogance and empty boasting bury a person in darkness at the smallest breeze.
One boasting with temporary opportunities extinguishes at a small obstacle. One shining with borrowed oil extinguishes quickly. The sun does not go out with wind. Arrogance leaves a person in darkness.
Temporary power should not blind the eye. Humility is the true light. One who knows their place shines without extinguishing.
