The Lame Wolf and the Sheep
Long ago a wounded wolf lived beside a green forest. In a fight with the dogs his leg broke, and he became very weak. For days he could not hunt, and hunger and thirst kept him on the ground. One sunny morning he saw a clever sheep on the fresh grass. The wolf quickly made a sly plan and called to the sheep. "Dear friend, please help me a little," he said in a weak voice.
"My legs hurt very badly and I cannot move at all," he added. "Will you bring me some water from that stream nearby?" he asked. "If you give me water, I can find my own food," he said. The sheep stopped and looked carefully at the wounded wolf. She saw the dangerous plan in his eyes at once. The wolf spoke very sweetly, but the sheep did not believe him.
The sheep stayed a little farther back and answered calmly. "If I bring you water, my meat will be your meal," she said. "Your goal is not thirst, but a trap for me," she added. The clever sheep lost no time and hurried away from there. The wolf stayed there hungry and thirsty, and watched her go. We must never believe the sweet words of wicked people. The wolf changes his coat, but never his nature.
