The Jackdaw and the Doves

Once there was a small and clever jackdaw. Every day he watched the happy doves in the garden. The doves always ate tasty wheat and never felt hungry. The jackdaw wanted that tasty food too. He painted his feathers white and went to the doves.

The doves saw a white bird and took him in. For a few days the jackdaw ate with the doves. But one day he forgot and used his own voice. The doves knew that voice and chased him away. The sad jackdaw wanted his old friends again.

But the other jackdaws saw only a white bird. His old friends did not take him back either. The clever jackdaw stayed alone on both sides. A false face leaves you alone in the end. Either look as you are, or be as you look.
