The Hyenas
Long ago, two hyenas lived on a wide savanna of golden sand. In this old tale, the hyenas changed sex and nature every year. One year they were hard and strong, the next year soft and calm. Every evening the sun turned red, and the night wind blew sweetly. By day they rested in the shade, by night they hunted together. One day the strong male decided to treat the female unfairly. He was always rough with her and took her food away.
The female hyena grew very sad, but she never shouted. With a calm voice she came closer and looked into his face. "Why are you treating me so badly today?" she asked. The male laughed and said, "Because I am stronger now." The female looked at him and answered with a wise smile. "Never forget that our roles will change next year," she said. "What you do to me today, you will feel tomorrow."
The male heard these words, stopped, and thought for a moment. He remembered at once: next year he will be the weak one. He understood his mistake and lowered his head in shame. From that day on he was always fair and kind to her. The two friends went on living in peace on the savanna. The way we treat others, one day life treats us the same. As you sow, so you reap.
