The Hyena and the Fox
Long ago, cheerful animals lived beside an old forest with cool streams. In that lovely place lived a clever fox and a moody hyena. The fox was always careful and noticed every danger very quickly. The hyena was gentle one day and very angry the next day. That is why the small animals never trusted the hyena at all. On a hot noon the hyena walked slowly up to the clever fox.
In a sweet voice he asked why the fox stayed away from him. "Don't you want to be my friend?" said the hyena sadly. The clever fox stepped behind a tree and looked at him calmly. "I would like that, but I never know when you change," she said. The hyena was surprised and said he was a very good friend. But even at that moment a sly, dangerous light shone in his eyes.
The fox noticed his uncertain, two-faced manner at once. She understood well that a friend without trust can never be close. She decided to leave the place quickly, before any harm came. "Whoever changes color every day is no friend," she said and ran off. The hyena stayed alone and thought sadly about all his mistakes. After that day nobody in the forest believed the moody hyena. People who act differently every day never gain full trust. An open enemy is better than a two-faced friend.
