The Hunter and the Wolf
A hunter shot a giant wild boar with an arrow he launched; however, the wounded boar with its last strength attacked the hunter and killed him too. A wolf passing by found both the lifeless bodies of the hunter and the boar lying side by side on the ground. The wolf said with great joy "This much abundant food is enough for me for months, let me save the meat for later and eat the bow's string first." The moment the wolf bit the taut bowstring, the wood of the bow sprang up, stabbed into the wolf's chest, and the wolf died right there.
Those who leave the lawful and big sustenance standing before them and turn their eyes to dangerous and worthless details out of extreme stinginess and greed suffer disaster. Greed blinds a person so much that they cannot even see the most obvious dangers. Discontent and uncalculated ambition, besides causing the loss of the big portion in hand, cost life too. It is essential to use the mind instead of acting greedy at the moment of opportunity.
Whoever leaves the main food out of greed and reaches into a dangerous trash perishes. Greed blinds a person. Discontent brings disaster. Do not leave ready portion and succumb to ambition.
Extreme stinginess takes life. Acting wisely saves life. Ambition covers danger.
