The Hare and the Tortoise

Long ago, in a green forest with cool streams, there lived a proud hare. This fast hare told every animal in the forest how quickly he ran. Every day he rushed past like the wind and felt very proud. In the same forest lived a slow but patient tortoise. The tortoise placed every step with care and never hurried. One day the hare saw her slow steps and made fun of her.

The tortoise laughed and offered the hare a funny race. The hare was very surprised, but he accepted at once. All the forest animals gathered excitedly by the big starting tree. The race began, and the fast hare disappeared in a moment. On the road the hare looked back and saw the tortoise far away. To rest a little, he fell asleep in the shade of a great tree.

The hard-working tortoise went on slowly, without stopping. She passed the sleeping hare quietly and came near the finish line. When the hare woke up, the tortoise was almost at the end. He ran with all his strength, but the patient tortoise won the race. Determination and patience are always worth more than speed. Slow and steady wins the race.
