The Gardener and His Vegetables
An old man had a beautiful big garden. Every day he looked after his vegetables and watered them. Tomatoes, peppers and carrots grew in the garden. The gardener loved his vegetables and worked very hard.
One day he saw wild weeds beside his garden. Nobody watered these weeds, but they grew very fast. His own vegetables grew more slowly and with trouble. A traveller came to the gardener and asked a question. "Why do the weeds grow stronger than your vegetables?" he said.
The gardener smiled and answered the traveller. "The soil is a mother to the weeds and a stepmother to the vegetables," he said. Nature always takes better care of her own children. The traveller liked these words very much. Every natural thing grows more easily with its own strength. Care makes a garden, neglect makes a wilderness.
