The Fox with the Burning Tail
Long ago, there lived a sly fox that constantly damaged a farmer's crops. The farmer grew very angry at the fox and set a trap in the field to catch him. Catching the sly fox trapped in the snare, the farmer wanted to give him a harsh punishment. The farmer tied bushes to the fox's tail, set them on fire, and released him.
Burning with pain, the terrified fox ran and plunged into the farmer's own wheat field. The flames on the fox's tail immediately ignited the dried wheat in the field. All of the farmer's hard work and crops turned into ashes right before his eyes. Acting with anger, the farmer realized that the punishment he inflicted brought about his own ruin.
He who rises in anger sits down with loss. Actions done in anger end in regret. Sharp vinegar damages its own container. Anger is sweeter than honey, but its end is bitter. Desire for revenge blinds a person. He who rises with rage sits down with greed.
He who gives irrational punishments harms himself. He who acts without thinking regrets it. Anger is the enemy of reason. Patience conquers anger. He who stays calm wins.
