The Fox Who Betrayed the Donkey
Long ago a clever fox and a simple donkey lived in a green forest. The two animals promised to walk together and to protect each other. On a sunny day they went deep into the forest to look for food. On the way a big hungry lion suddenly stood in front of them. The donkey began to shake with fear, but the fox made a quick plan. The fox went quietly to the lion and whispered to him.
"Do not hurt me, and I will help you catch the donkey easily," he said. The lion accepted this offer and smiled at the fox. The clever fox came back to the donkey and spoke sweet words. "Do not be afraid, my friend, you can hide behind that deep pit," he said. The poor donkey believed the fox and ran quickly to the pit. But his foot slipped, and he fell into the pit and got stuck there.
The fox was very glad because his plan worked so well. But the lion looked at the helpless donkey in the pit and smiled. Then he suddenly turned around and jumped on the clever fox. "The donkey cannot run away, so I will eat you first," he said and caught the fox. So the clever fox paid at once for his own treachery. People who set traps for others fall into their own traps in the end. He who sows the wind reaps the storm.
