The Fox and the Woodcutter
In the deep forest a fox runs in fear. While escaping from the hunters he sees a small hut. An old woodcutter stands at the door of the hut.
The fox begs and asks the woodcutter for help. The woodcutter hides him in the wooden hut. Soon the hunters on horseback come to the hut.
The hunters ask, "Have you seen a fox here?" With his tongue the woodcutter says, "I have not seen one." But with his hand he secretly points at the hidden fox.
The hunters go away without seeing the hand sign. The fox comes out of his hiding place and walks quietly. The woodcutter says, "Why do you not thank me?"
The fox says, "If your hand and your tongue were one, I would."
A person whose word and heart are not one cannot be trusted.
