The Fowler and the Doves
Long ago, a small village stood beside an old forest with cool streams. In this village an old fowler set a big secret net in the field. In the middle of the net he spread tasty wheat grains and sweet corn. Then the man hid behind a bush to catch the wild doves. The blue doves in the sky saw this tasty food from far away. Their leader saw the shiny yellow wheat and felt very happy.
"There is a wonderful feast down there, let us go now," he said. But one old dove was a little suspicious about this easy food. "So much free grain can be dangerous," he warned his friends. But the hungry doves did not want to hear this wise word. All together they came down happily and began to eat the wheat. At that moment the clever fowler pulled the rope very fast.
The huge net closed suddenly and all the doves stayed inside. The helpless birds beat their wings in fear, but they could not escape. The doves lost their freedom because of their quick decision. The clever fowler came happily and filled his cage with great joy. The little birds learned a big lesson from this sweet trap. Sweet gains that look easy can hide great dangers. Regret always comes too late.
