The Fortune Teller
Once an old man lived in a small, crowded town. He sat in the market and told people their fortunes. Everyone in the town believed that he knew the future. Every day he gave people good news or bad news. People paid him and listened to his words with care. One sunny day he waited for his customers again.
Suddenly a neighbour ran to him, out of breath. The neighbour shouted, "Run home, thieves robbed your house!" The fortune teller was shocked and afraid at this news. He stood up and ran home, shouting all the way. He cried loudly because he lost all his things. The people in the market watched him with surprise.
A wise man on the road watched him from behind. The man smiled and said, "You know everyone's future." "But why could you not see the thieves at home?" he asked. The fortune teller had no answer and felt very ashamed. After that day the town never believed him again. People who cannot see their own life cannot guide others. The candle gives no light to its own base.
