The Foolish Girl
There was a foolish girl who could do no work in her house and was incapable of even kneading dough. Seeing every stranger passing on the road, the girl said to her mother "I want to marry this man." Her mother said to the girl "My daughter, marriage is a big responsibility; you cannot even cook a bowl of soup yet, gain skills first." Not listening to her mother, the girl went to the dough trough but mixed up flour and water and ruined the house.
People who undertake big responsibilities without knowledge, skill, and preparation exhibit their incompetence at the first step. The magnitude of desires should be proportional to the level of skills and preparation. Steps taken unqualified and unprepared result in embarrassment. It is essential first to train oneself and then aspire to big tasks.
One who enters big tasks unprepared and unqualified becomes disgraced. Unskilled desire brings embarrassment. Train yourself first, then aspire. An unqualified step disgraces.
Big responsibility requires skill. One entering unprepared remains halfway. Steps are not taken before maturing.
