The Fool and the Sieve

Once upon a time, at the edge of a cute stream smelling of colorful flowers, lived a curious young man named Keloğlan. Keloğlan was a kind-hearted person, but he immediately acted on the first thought that came to his mind. One summer morning, he decided to carry water from the sparkling stream to his wooden house. Running to the kitchen, he grabbed the first tool he found, namely the holed sieve they used while sifting flour. Not caring about the holes in the sieve at all, he headed toward the stream singing songs cheerfully.

Arriving at the edge of the cool stream, he dipped the sieve into the clear water with enthusiasm. When he quickly pulled the sieve out of the water, he saw the water filtering through the holes and dripping away. "I guess water is spilling because I can't run fast enough," thought Keloğlan. Refilling the sieve, he started running toward home with all his strength. However, after taking only a few steps, he noticed that the sieve was completely empty. At that moment, an old sage on the roadside was watching Keloğlan's effort with a smile.

The wise man approached him and said, "Son, you are wasting your breath in vain." Keloğlan replied stubbornly, "If I run a little faster, I can deliver the water home." He tried many times throughout the day, but each time he was left with only a wet sieve in his hand. As the sun set, Keloğlan collapsed to his knees from exhaustion and finally understood the truth. The wise man smiled gently, handing him a sturdy wooden bucket.

"Mind works when you choose the right tool," he taught Keloğlan a lesson. Keloğlan filled water into the bucket and reached his house without spilling a single drop. Thus he understood that effort spent with the wrong method yields no results. A person who does not use their mind and the right tools wastes their effort no matter how hard they try. You cannot carry water in a sieve.
