The Father and His Sons
There was an old father who had sons who were constantly fighting and unable to get along with each other. Saddened by this rift among his sons, the father decided to teach them an important lesson they would never forget. Calling his sons to his side, he placed a tightly bound bundle of thin sticks in front of them. The father asked his sons to break this bound bundle of sticks across their knees.
All the sons tried one by one, but could not break the bound bundle in any way. Then the father untied the string of the bundle and handed the sticks to his sons one by one, telling them to break them. The sons easily broke the sticks one by one in a single move without effort. The father said "You are like these sticks; if you stay united no enemy can defeat you, if you split you will be broken one by one."
Strength springs from unity, disaster comes from division. United hands form an unbeatable force. No enemy can tear down those who stay together. It is easy to prey on the divided.
A united family and nation remains strong. A single stick breaks easily, a bundle does not break. Power lies in unity.
