The Farmer's Sons
A farmer and his three sons lived on an old farm. The brothers fought all the time and never agreed. The old father was very sad about this. One day he called his sons to him. He put a tightly tied bundle of sticks before them. “Break this bundle of sticks!” he said.
The sons took the bundle one by one. They pulled the bundle with all their strength. But nobody broke the tied sticks. Then the father untied the rope. He gave one single stick to each son. The boys broke the single sticks at once.
The old father smiled at his sons. “Together you stay strong like this bundle,” he said. “Apart you break easily like one stick,” he said. The sons stopped fighting and hugged each other.
Now they knew: people together never fall.
United we stand, divided we fall.
