The Donkeys' Appeal to Zeus
Long ago, behind the high mountains, many donkeys lived together. Every day they helped people and carried heavy loads. But in time they grew very tired of this hard life. At last they met and decided to ask Zeus for help. They sent the oldest donkey to Zeus as messenger.
After a long journey he reached Zeus's palace. He bowed before Zeus with respect and told his trouble. "My lord, we donkeys work hard every day," he said. "Please have mercy and take our heavy loads away." Zeus listened to this wish and thought a while. Then he smiled and gave an impossible condition. "Make a river with your pee, then you are free," he said.
The old donkey happily carried this news home. All the donkeys quickly met beside a dusty road. Together they made their pee to build a river. But all their work made only a small puddle.
Since that day the donkeys smell every water. They still hope for a river and try again.
Running after empty hopes only makes people tired. Never say amen to an impossible prayer.
