The Donkey, the Crow and the Wolf

On a sunny day an old donkey grazed quietly in a green field. The donkey had a big, old and very painful wound on his back. A hungry wolf stood at the edge of the forest and watched him closely. Just then a black crow glided down from the sky. Without any fear the crow landed right on the sore back. With its sharp beak the crow began to strike the painful wound.

The poor donkey cried out in pain, but he could not chase the crow away. He only jumped and ran across the field, swinging his tail. The crow stood calmly on his back and went on pecking the wound. Behind a tree the wolf saw everything and shook his head in surprise. The wolf whispered angrily to himself: "This is not fair at all!" "If I come near the donkey, all the villagers chase me with sticks."

"But this crow hurts him and nobody says a word." The wolf took courage and stepped slowly towards the field. But the shepherd in the field saw him and shouted very loudly. The villagers took stones and ran quickly at the wolf. Helpless, the wolf had to run deep into the forest. The unpunished wrongs of others must never become our example. Every man has his own way of doing things.
