The Donkey Eating Thorns
A donkey loaded on his back with delicious figs, honeys, cheeses, and fresh breads for a great banquet set out on the road. Along the road, the donkey walked breathing in the smell of those delicious foods on his back. However, when getting hungry, he began gnawing hard, dry, and thorny bushes on the roadside. Looking at the donkey's state, the farmer said "While carrying a banquet worthy of kings on your back, you eat thorny bushes that bleed your lips."
People who act as porters of great wealth and riches while suffering misery and hardship in their own lives resemble this donkey. Depriving oneself of basic needs while serving the welfare of others is a great misfortune. Wealth porters who cannot benefit from their own means and constantly work for others cannot find peace. Wealth is being able to possess it and live humanely; just being its carrier is nothing but a burden.
Do not act as a porter of wealth and leave yourself in destitution. Carrying someone else's wealth is not wealth. One who cannot benefit from their own means is poor. Eating thorns does not fit carrying a banquet.
Wealth is for living, not for carrying. Acting as a porter does not make a person rich. Benefiting from one's own right is a virtue.
