The Donkey and the Frogs
Long ago an old donkey carried heavy firewood. On a hot summer day he walked along a narrow road. Beside the road there was a deep, muddy swamp. The donkey was very tired and stepped without care. Suddenly his foot slipped and he fell into the mud. He tried to get out, but he could not stand up.
The heavy wood on his back pushed him deeper. The helpless donkey began to cry and shout loudly. "Oh no, I am lost here! What now?" he shouted. Just then the little frogs of the swamp heard him. One frog lifted her head out of the water and looked. His crying and complaining surprised the frogs very much.
A wise frog swam right up to the donkey. The frog laughed and asked, "Why do you shout so much?" "You just fell, and you will soon get out," she said. "We spend our whole life in this cold mud," she added. At these words the donkey felt ashamed and stopped shouting. He gathered all his strength and climbed out of the mud.
Instead of making small troubles bigger, we must learn patience.
However bad it is, there is always something worse.
