The Dog, the Rooster and the Fox
Long ago two friends lived in a cool old forest. These friends were a loyal dog and a happy rooster. One day they set off on a long journey. They walked happily among green trees and bright flowers. In the evening they rested near a big oak tree. The rooster closed his eyes on a high branch.
The dog crept into the tree's hollow and slept well. In the morning the rooster crowed loudly and beautifully. A sly fox nearby heard the song and came. The fox wanted the tasty rooster, but could not climb. The fox said, "Come down, friend, and sing with me." The clever rooster understood the bad plan at once.
The rooster said, "Wake the doorman; he opens the door." The sly fox looked happily into the hollow below. Then the big dog jumped out and attacked the fox. The frightened fox ran into the forest without looking back. The two friends escaped the danger and travelled on safely. Clever and careful creatures never fall into cunning traps. He who digs a pit for another falls in himself.
