The Dog's Kennel
Once upon a time, at the edge of an old forest where cool waters flowed, lived a cute dog named Karabaş. In summer months, the wind blew sweetly, and Karabaş rolled joyfully on the green grass all day long. However, when winter season arrived, freezing cold and harsh storms descended upon the forest. Sheltering in a secluded tree hollow, Karabaş waited trembling for the cold nights to pass. As the wind chilled his bones, he promised himself to build a sturdy kennel. When the freezing days covered with snow finally ended and spring came, the sun warmed the forest once more.
The scent of flowers surrounded everywhere, and Karabaş lay comfortably on the warm ground. Stretching his body under the warm sun, he looked proudly at the broad meadows around him. "Do I really need such a big kennel in winter, I wonder?" he thought. Collecting wood and building a kennel while enjoying the sun seemed very difficult to him. An old rabbit passing by looked at him and said, "Don't be fooled by summer comfort, Karabaş, you must prepare for winter." Karabaş yawned and replied, "Look at me, can any kennel withstand this huge body of mine?"
Every warm day, the dog postponed building a kennel to tomorrow and just enjoyed the sun. Months passed quickly, leaves turned yellow, and cool autumn winds began to blow again. When the sun withdrew from the sky and dark clouds covered the forest, freezing winter cold suddenly returned. The storm starting in the darkness of night caught the helpless dog unprotected and alone again. Karabaş huddled up trembling, but he no longer had the time or strength to collect wood.
He felt deep regret for getting carried away by summer comfort and not building a kennel. He had to pay the penalty for every day he postponed alone under the freezing wind. Negligence in good days causes great trouble in hard days. He who works hard in summer enjoys warm meals in winter.
