The Dog at the Feast
A lucky dog living in a rich mansion invited his friend on the street to dinner upon learning that a big feast would be given in the evening. When feast time came, the street dog sneaking into the kitchen saw delicious meats on tables and passed out with appetite. However, the angry cook noticing the uninvited dog floating in the kitchen shaking his tail immediately caught him by the leg. The cook lifted the street dog into the air and threw him out of the window into the street; the dog crashed down with pain.
When other dogs on the street asked joyfully "How was the feast, did you eat a lot?", the beaten dog said "I drank so much that I don't even remember where I stepped and left." Those who attempt to enter assemblies uninvited and undeservedly suffer great harm and embarrassment. Those who do not know their place and try to feast relying on someone else's power pay heavy prices. Those who have eyes without permission on someone else's house and table become disgraced and thrown into the street.
One who goes uninvited suffers punishment. One entering without permission gets beaten. One who does not know their place becomes disgraced. One having eyes on another's table remains hungry.
An uninvited guest is thrown out the door. One trusting their luck finds trouble. Knowing one's place is the greatest virtue.
