The Dog and the Seashell
Long ago, a little dog lived in a lovely fishing village by the blue sea. This cheerful dog loved eggs very, very much. Every morning he visited the farms and swallowed the fresh eggs in one gulp. He took every round thing with a hard shell for an egg. Under the bright sun, a walk on the shore was his greatest joy.
One hot noon, he saw something strange on the wet sand. A big, white and hard seashell lay on the sand. The hungry dog ran to the shell with excitement. "Look, here is another huge and tasty egg," he barked. Without thinking and without smelling, he opened his big mouth. He swallowed the hard seashell in one single gulp.
But the seashell was not a tasty egg. The heavy, sharp shell sat in his belly like a stone. The poor dog lay down on the sand with a terrible stomach ache. "Oh, my belly hurts because I was in a hurry," he groaned. He learned it in a painful way: not every round thing is an egg. After that day he decided to look at his food with care.
Hasty work without good thinking brings people only regret. Haste makes waste.
