The Dog and the Butcher
Long ago, a colourful market filled a pretty seaside town. Every morning the sellers offered fresh and tasty food there. A cheerful, generous butcher named Şakir lived in the town. Şakir always kept clean and tasty meat in his shop. The market's clever dog, Karabaş, passed the shop every day. Karabaş's nose could smell good things from very far away.
One hot noon, Şakir was tidying his shop counter. A big piece of red meat lay on the counter. Then a customer came in and started talking to Şakir. When the butcher turned around, clever Karabaş saw his chance. With silent steps he slipped inside and grabbed the fresh meat. "What a wonderful dinner!" thought the lovely dog. With the meat in his mouth, he ran to the street.
When Şakir turned back, the counter was empty. He looked outside and saw Karabaş running happily away. Şakir watched the dog and took a deep breath. "Today I lost meat, but I learned a lesson," said the butcher. From that day he never left his counter alone.
A careless person can lose his most valuable things.
Trust in God, but tie your donkey tightly first.
