The Dancing Camel

Once upon a time, a big camel lived in a hot desert of golden sand. This camel had a good heart, but he was a little too eager. In a cool oasis in the middle of the desert, a colourful forest festival began. All the happy animals listened to music and had fun at that lovely festival. The friendly camel also wanted very much to join the big party. On the festival ground, small pretty birds began to dance with grace.

All the animals clapped for that beautiful dance with great admiration. Our camel also wanted to go on the stage and show his skill. "I can dance wonderfully too, just like you," he said. The camel swung his long legs and his huge body, and he jumped. But his big feet stuck in the sand, and he fell down in a funny way. The other animals watched him and began to laugh loudly and whisper.

The camel felt so ashamed that he did not know what to do, and he ran away. The sad camel went to the wise old turtle and told her his trouble. The wise turtle smiled at him and spoke in a sweet, soft voice. "Your strong legs can walk long roads across the desert," she said. The camel remembered his own gift and felt like the proud ship of the desert. Now he learned to be happy with his own talent instead of copying others. Everyone is beautiful and shines in the work that fits their nature. Every bird sings its own song.
